PUVFD was activated at 4:34 PM this afternoon along with the Arnold Palmer Regional Airport Fire Department to assist at the airport filling two fixed wing air tankers that were called in to assist Seward Volunteer Fire Department with a forest fire in PA State Game Lands in St. Clair Township. PUVFD and APRA firefighters filled the single engine aircrafts with water which were providing aerial water drops over the forest fire area. Two contracted planes flew in and landed at the airport for refilling then flew back to the fire area just east of Seward where they dumped their water and then returned. Firefighters re-loaded the airplanes with water while still running to minimize their down time on the ground. This was the first time PUVFD firefighters were ever in our 99 year history called to perform such a unique function. Although we were many miles away from the actual fire, our part with helping the airplanes made a significant difference on getting the fire under control.
