The Pleasant Unity Food Bank which distributes food to local families the second Monday of each month from the Pleasant Unity United Methodist Church asked Pleasant Unity Volunteer Fire Department for some assistance during the COVID-19 pandemic. The food bank utilizes community volunteers to help distribute food to needy families typically having recipients entering the PU Methodist Church to obtain the food. While newly established social distancing became the normal it was necessary to change their food pickup to a "drive through" service eliminating person to person contact. Organizers of the food bank contacted PUVFD to utilize the fire department garage, parking lots and volunteer firefighters to help with distributions for the time being since the parking lot and setup at the church were not optimal for this drive through service and larger than normal crowds of food recipients.
Pleasant Unity Volunteer Fire Department responded to help by providing a garage for the food to be distributed along with volunteer firefighters helping control the traffic lined up for the distribution. The food bank will once again be back at PUVFD the second Monday of May and likely longer until we can they are able to get back to their previous way of distribution.
